Resurrecting the Buckden Gala Dance

An Evening of Dances from the Yorkshire Dales

This year we are resurrecting the Gala Dance! In earlier days the dance was held at the end of the day of the Gala, but we have decided that we might all enjoy the dance more if it is held on another day. It will be in the afternoon of Saturday 27th June, starting at 3pm. Full details on the events calendar.

Peter Barnard will be teaching the dances at the dance, with members of The Dales Dance Band playing. The band will include Brian and Peter Beresford who are eighth generation musicians of the illustrious Beresford family. The band make a lively sound, just right for dancing.

Peter continues his work to uncover as many local dances as he can find. The dance programme will consist entirely of those dances collected - and recollected as having been danced - in the Dales, and Peter is happy to include your favourite Dales dances – folk and Old Time. He will need to have that information before the day so that the band can be prepared with the right music.

So, if in the past you really enjoyed The Huntsman’s Chorus or The Doris Waltz – to name only a couple of dances – please get in touch with Peter at peter.barnard@me.com or leave a message with Peter Vetch at peter@vetch.co.uk.
